Cruising the Nile

My anticipation for this felucca ride on the Nile was big – I will say. After reading testimonials and looking at youtube clips from feluccas at sunset, how could they not. So for me this was a big thing.

Fellucca Riding at the nile in sunset - a must if you visit Egypt and Luxor

We had finaly checked in at the Iberot Luxor hotel and some of us Norwegians headed down to the garden to await the sailing at 1830 PM with a glass of Egyptian white wine. As we all were heading down to the hotel dock – yes the hotel has its own dock, the sun was already beginning to set.

To fill the boat up with 30+ people was probably not the best thing for experiencing the sunset. We were pretty packed and it would have been way better if they had provided us with two boats. The boat was so full that some of us had to stand at the back and when the boat suddenly started moving we almost got kicked into the nile itself. Not an experience I would have loved to had taken.

Eventually we got moving – and what a ride. Probably one of the best experience I had on this trip. If you ever are planning a trip to Egypt and are close to the Nile please, please do take a Felucca ride at sunset.

Bought back memories of my felucca ride many years ago. I was shocked to hear you were on a boat with 30 or 15 in each. I did it with 2 others and paid the skipper directly. I do remember the first night stopping at an island with lots of other felucca’s. Did you do the same? Sorry just retread and realised you did a sunset cruise which sounds fun.

we had limited time here at the nile in Luxor, only 24 hours. As I were part of a press trip arranged by the Egyptian Travel association. We were actually 35 pax on this boat! – it did ruin some of the experience. Absolutely way to many. So I hope to relive the felucca ride some day. 2 people sounds great sounds like you had a good trip then. 🙂

hehe.. akkurat den biten var litt kjip. Men det var faktisk en fantastisk tur selv om den ble litt forkortet av litt rot og surr… Kansje en annen gang 😉
