Thüringen county, where wurst and beer meet

Had our first night in Erfurt and got to walk the streets at night of this Thüringen state capital and I am looking forward to get to know this city better.

But first we have more wurst´s to taste and this time along with a beer tasting in the Thüringen town of Arnstadt.

Just 10 min. with the Bahn (trainride) and then 10 min. by car, we head into the countryside and town of Holzhausen. Never have I ever been greeted in form of a giant sausage, but this is what meets us upon heading into town..

ahem.... say what - the biggest Thüringen bratwurst says hello.

Holzhausen is know for one thing in particular, the first German Brat museum. It is a tiny village of 441 inhabitants and in the senter of town you will find the Bratwurst Museum. We are invited to join in on the making of the Thüringian Bratwurst, to meet the Bratwurst King himself (yes he exists, and he takes his job really seriously!) and to learn more about the history of the German Bratwurst here in Thüringen. Coming out of season we have the entire museum to our selves.

Have you ever wondered what a proper Bratwurst contains, wonder no more. I am here to show you :

Firstly pure pork meat. and make sure it has a mixture of different part. you need the fat.

Fresh pork, add Milk, salt, pepper, cumin and muscat (+ that ever secret ingredient). Mash up using your hands, put in a mincer and at the end. The fun part! make into sausages, the old way..

done mincing - put some more spices to it and you are ready

Micro breweries in Germany are everywhere. Even more som that Norway, where we just these past years have seen a rise in both interest and making of new micro brewery. We were lucky to make a visit to the Stadtbraurei Arnstadt. Having the Beer caller take us on a small tour and then after tasting the beer them selves.

A busy day with lot´s of impressions and tastings… But boy we make good wursts..

The WurstAdventure is in partnership with The German National Tourist Office, Best Western Hotels, DBBahn and NordicTB, the opinions, text and pictures is as always all mine
