Islands of southern Norway

Silence….

The one thing that strikes me the most is the silence of this place. Once Mr. Grumpy´s playground when a little boy. His family used to own their own cabin here in the wonderful Islands of Ryfylke and Fjord of Nedstrand. Sjernarøy consists of seven small Island located in the depths of the Nedstrands fjord – most famous for the sinking of  Alexander Kielland Rig.

Coming here for the Easter bank holiday was one of the best things we could have done. It was due for a couple getaway but there is no glam nor luxury in sight. The luxury here is the slow pace and the silence – and if you ask me, in these technological days that is a whole lotta luxe.

There is no cars, planes, sirens or screaming neighbors in sight – just plane silence only broken by the sounds of the seagull and a few boats tuktuk. This is a place you come to charge your batteries and to relax – a detox from life.

Island sunset
Oh the sunset you will se at this place. Bring up your chair, something in your glass and just sit back and enjoy the show of Mother Nature – priceless

I could easily stay here for a week and never get bored. There is plenty of hiking oppertuneties if you like. You can hop on a rented bike and see the Island or Islands. Take the Car and explore the small curvy roads. Or even as we did rent a Boat and take if for a ride, like here , my youtube channel. (Mr. Grumpy need some more training on the photo part though)

One of the many coves along the Islands. So many nice picturesque places.

We did a two hour hike and enjoyed the sea and forest and was awarded with a beautiful view at the top. More on this next week.

Never have the sounds of the seagull been more welcoming. I hate them at home – seeing them as rodents, noisy makers. But down by the sea in their natural habitant they are even charming ♥

we stayed at Furrehytter in Sjernarøy Maritim and got one of the smaller cabins with a great view. Sparsely decorated in a typical Norwegian Cabin style. For us, just perfect. We are even looking into going back for the summer.

You can come here for the weekend or even stay longer if you need some more time of. Located just 2 hours including one ferry´s ride from home. (Stavanger)

Det er en fryd å utforske eget land og for den saks skyld våre naboland (Sverige og Danmark). Takk skjønne du for flotte ord. Ha en fortsatt flott kveld du også. Krysser fingre for at du får positivt svar imorgen 😉
